The autumn half-term is fast approaching, so parents who are planning to enjoy a Castleton B&B holiday with their little ones should take a look at our list of exciting things they can get up to.

  • Halloween fun at Chatsworth House

Though Castleton, undeniably, has plenty of attractions of its own to visit, many people who stay in Derbyshire don’t leave without heading to Chatsworth House

So, why not head down to the impressive stately home between October 23rd and November 3rd when you can visit its pumpkin patch, carve and decorate your own pumpkin, take part in Halloween crafts, or have your face painted?

On October 27th and 28th, there will also be a bonfire and firework display, combined with Halloween entertainment and seasonal food.

  • Menacing Monster Halloween Trail at RSPB Coombes Valley

Another spooky event is taking place at RSPB Coombes Valley between October 28th and 31st to celebrate Halloween.

Come along and enjoy an autumnal walk on its spooky trail, which will be scattered with scary monsters.

  • Matlock Bath Illuminations

Head to Matlock Bath before the end of half-term to enjoy its Illuminations. Each Saturday and Sunday from around 1900 brightly lit models, which are mounted on rowing boats, glide along the River Derwent.

What’s more, a firework display takes place at 2100, lighting up Matlock Bath even more.

You can also expect to see stilt walkers, while there will be a circus on Sunday October 22nd that is worth catching too.

The themes over the half-term weekends include pirates and mermaids, and superheroes, which is bound to go down well with young children!

The special event comes to an end on Sunday October 29th, so it is worth heading there on its ultimate night if you can, as it is sure to be an even more impressive spectacle!
